FAQ Supa Maxi™

  1. Why use the Supa Maxi ™ gate valve when I repair an old pipe, instead of a normal coupling?
With a built-in gate valve, it is easy to shut off the medium in case of future pipe repair or replacement.

  2. Why use the Supa Maxi ™ gate valve instead of other types of gate valves?
Supa Maxi ™ gate valves are easier to install than, for example, a flanged gate valve or a gate valve with spigot ends. They are also a cheaper solution compared to the extra cost of a valve + 2 flanges + bolts and gaskets.

  3. Why was a design chosen with bolts that are tightened from the inside?
The first prototype was designed with bolts that had to be tightened from the outside, but field tests showed that tightening from the inside is easier in places with limited space.

  4. Is it necessary to tighten the bolts on both sides?
Like all mechanical couplings the bolts must be tightened on both sides. However, thanks to the unique design of the AVK coupling, the bolts can be tightened individually. This is to compensate for possible oval deformation of the pipe. It is recommended to partially tighten the bolts before installing the coupling on the pipe to facilitate installation. This ensures even pressure on the gasket and grip elements and accelerates installation in the trench.

  5. Why use Supa Maxi ™ instead of another brand?
The unique Supa Grip ™ clamping ring system ensures optimal sealing even under difficult conditions. AVK Supa Maxi ™ couplings and gate valves are of a durable and high quality and easy to install.

  6. When do I choose a universal tensile coupling?
The many types of couplings and adapters seem to overlap in terms of application and installation. To provide a better overview of the different options, couplings are split into two categories - dimensionally stable and universal - which in turn are divided into tensile and non-tensile types. So there are four main categories.

For more information see our page on "How do you choose the right coupling?"

  7. What should I do with the central part of the protection cover after I have removed it?
It is made from recyclable polyethylene, so you can simply sort it with your other PE waste.

  8. Why does AVK choose for couplings with permanent protective caps?
During our product research, we learned from several customers that dirt often ends up in the seal. Tightening the bolts is also difficult when there is sand and dirt in the threads. That is why AVK designed a protective cap that protects both the seal and the bolt threads. This facilitates installation and ensures maximum sealing.

  9. Why is it not necessary to re-tighten the bolts after installation?
AVK uses a full metal grip construction, which ensures that the seal does not degrade over time, as is the case with plastic variants.
