AVK extension spindles for valves – easy to use, easy to rely on!

Extension spindles are used for access to operation of valves installed below ground or above ground in places where the valves are not easily accessible. AVK extension spindles are easy to use and made of corrosion-resistant materials on fully automated state-of-the-art production equipment to ensure a uniform and long-lasting quality.

Ease of use and long-lasting quality

Our extension spindles are designed for ease of use with features that secure easy mounting and easy length adjustment on site. Please see how in our extension spindle animation. Easy operation of the valves is secured by the bottom covers of the extension spindles which protect the valve stems from impurities and enable them to rotate freely – and by a high, uniform and long-lasting quality of the extension spindles.

Our standard extension spindles are designed with outer tubes and bottom covers of PE, key adaptors at the top and stem adaptors at the bottom of cast stainless steel, and inner tubes of galvanized steel. The inner tube is press fit to the key and stem adaptor to safeguard the corrosion protection of the tube. As the last step of the production process the extension spindles are torque tested with up to 675 Nm (depending on size) to ensure durability.

AVK extension spindles for service connection valves feature a “Safe Click” three-step mounting process where the quick-mounting clip secures the connection between the valve stem and the bottom adapter of the extension spindle and allows for mounting and demounting without use of tools.

Fixed length extension spindles for gate valves and service connection valves

Fixed length extension spindles are typically used when the distance between the valve and the ground surface is known. However, fast and easy shortening of the extension spindle is possible thanks to the AVK design with an expanding bolt facilitating length adjustment merely by use of e.g. a hacksaw.

The extension spindles are available with a pipe cover of 800, 1000, 1500, 2000 and 3000 mm corresponding to the distance from the top of the pipeline to the top of the surface box mounted on top of the extension spindle.

Telescopic extension spindles for gate valves and service connection valves

Telescopic extension spindles are typically used when the distance between the valve and the ground surface is unknown and length adjustment of the extension spindle will be required after installation.

The top is provided with ears that can be fixed into AVK surface boxes and support tiles. A lock spring prevents the telescopic part from collapsing during installation, as it creates friction inside the inner tube and is securely fixed when the extension spindle is pulled out to its maximum length. The blue center sleeve protects against penetration of impurities between the two PE pipes.

The extension spindles are available with telescopic lengths from 450-700 to 2850-5250 mm. Please refer to the individual datasheets listed below for the length ranges and to “Pipe cover for extension spindles” for the distance from the top of the pipeline to the top of the mounted surface box for each telescopic length per valve DN.

Telescopic extension spindles for double eccentric butterfly valves

The variants for double eccentric butterfly valves also offer the same basic features as the ones for gate valves. The only differences are that they are designed with a special bottom cover that encapsulates the input shaft of the valve gearbox and that the extension spindle is mounted by means of a quick mounting clip like the one used for service connection valves. The extension spindles are available in four lengths; 450-700, 650-1100, 1050-1750 and 1700-2900 mm for valve DN200-600 and valve DN600-1200 respectively.
